Bargain hunters in the run-up to Christmas have Black Friday on their calendar. Discount campaigns loom over the Internet. Local shops in the West Palatinate oppose it – every year.
Black Friday could be a retail opportunity, say businessmen in Pirmasens and Zweibrucken, for example. True to the motto: what the Internet can do, local shops in the city center have been able to do for a long time!
The local retail business is constantly changing, says Eric Weiss of the Pirmasens Retail Association. So Black Friday is an opportunity for further development. More and more stores are participating in the discount day, which originated in the USA, with various campaigns. In other words: they feel their opportunity.
Not everyone can participate in Black Friday due to Corona
Sandra Kleiman of Gemeinsamhandel Zweibrücken sees it similarly. It makes it clear that not all local merchants in Zweibrücken can take part in sales campaigns on Black Friday, let alone Black Week. No one should forget, according to Kleiman, that many retailers would have suffered from Corona and therefore large discounts could not be granted.
It is therefore important that retailers offer their customers what the Internet cannot: a personal connection and an emotional shopping experience. Matthias Ballmann, President of the Retail Association of Kaiserslautern, also relies on the personal component.
For Matthias Pallmann, Black Friday sales campaigns are not necessarily in the interest of local retailers. He personally relies on good prices for his customers in his store all year round.
