For the first time, the Federal Network Agency has published data on parcel transit times and delivery quality of parcels within Germany frompublished. The data covers the period from July 2021 to June 2022.
Accordingly, 80 percent of parcels have already been delivered on the first working day after the day of dispatch. According to the Federal Network Agency, the 80 percent legal minimum for next-day delivery but one working day is exceeded in all 10 postal code regions of Germany with an annual average of over 95 percent.
Basically, customers were satisfied, and less than 5 percent of package recipients reported complaints about the delivery service. Almost two-thirds of parcels were delivered to the home address by hand-to-hand. 4.3 percent of parcels were deposited at a post office or parcel store. Although most packages are still hand-to-hand, customers now also use the option to permanently forward packages in terms of location or time for about one-fifth of package shipments.
“On average over the year, the majority of parcels were delivered no later than the second working day after dispatch. This means that the legal requirements have been met, ”says Klaus Müller, head of the Federal Network Agency. “The overall quality of parcel delivery in Germany is satisfactory. It is crucial that the current delivery problems in the postal sector are quickly addressed.”
