The loud explosion that stunned and surprised residents in several cities in Utah and southern Idaho on Saturday may have been a meteorite.
This was confirmed by the Salt Lake City National Weather Service (NWS) through a message on its Twitter account.
“We now have video confirmation of the meteor that was heard over northern Utah, southern Idaho and other locations this morning.” According to NWS.
A strong “boom” was felt in Salt Lake City, Park City, Syracuse, West Valley and other cities.
A video taken by a resident shows the moment a potential meteor crossed the sky from left to right as it fell.
Governor Spencer Cox said he also felt the blast this morning while jogging in Salt Lake City, and said it wasn’t a jolt or noise from military installations.
