The euro is also collapsing against the dollar, hitting a 20-year low.due to growing fears of a recession. By 1115 GMT, the currency fell 0.77 percent to $1.0188, after falling to $1.0187, its lowest level since December 2022.

Guillaume Deggin, an analyst at Western Union, explained that the euro fell “under the combined effect of fears of recession in Europe and financial turmoil fueled by a new increase in energy prices in the region (particularly gas and electricity)”.
