Soldiers and policemen are looking for criminals!

cIn compliance with President Luis Abenader’s readiness to confront crime, the National Police and the Armed Forces yesterday afternoon began joint operations “My Safe Country” with the aim of restoring peace and tranquility to the Dominicans.

Joining the police force are more than a thousand soldiers from the armed forces, distributed in the major districts of Santo Domingo and the provinces within the country, where criminal acts occur at any time of the day or night.

Soldiers, send the cops. This is a moment in which the country benefits from our services, because we warn those who disturb the public peace and put our men and women in anxiety and turmoil in the neighbourhoods, in the towns, in the provinces, in the corners here in the great Santo Domingo, said General Jorge Mansebo Bautista, Central Director of Prevention: The Armed Forces and the National Police are here as we have always done, to protect our citizens.”

Operations were set up at strategic points, where hundreds of people who were found carrying firearms, knives, and drug users were arrested in fights and other crimes that disturb neighborhood security.

Each general, both police and armed forces, was assigned an area that they had to inspect.

Operation support
The people of the neighborhoods greeted the policemen with joy and applauded for them, saying: Bravo! Glory to God we finally have it here! They won a hundred! Count on us! Don’t leave us alone time!, among other exclamations.

Yesterday morning, President Abenader ordered the launch of a joint operation in order to ensure peace amid the escalation of crime.

The President, after presiding over a meeting with the National Police Council, emphasized that the government would not accept the peace of the Mafia, as agreements are made to maintain calm especially with regard to drug smuggling.

“This government works and will continue to work towards real peace and tranquility based on respect for human rights but also on the resilience of our law enforcement forces to bring peace and tranquility and for our citizens to feel safe on the streets,” said Abu al-Nader.

Abi Nader added, “I ask those who act in our neighborhoods, and in our sectors, who are causing unrest, to surrender peacefully because if they do not (they do), they will be found wherever they are.”

crime increase
Abenader’s request came days after four members of the criminal gang known as “Los Minores” or “Chucky Mallos” were killed by police.

According to official reports, Miguel Angel Calderon “Pombo”, the leader of the gang, was killed; Kelvin Santos de la Cruz, Yiral David Peralta and another unidentified person were caught in a shootout with uniformed police.
